Bobby Moore OBE will always be remembered for captaining England to World Cup glory in 1966, and the Hammers to triumphs in the FA and European Cup Winners’ Cups.

He was 51 when he died of bowel cancer in 1993. Shortly after, his widow Stephanie Moore OBE set up a fund to raise money for bowel cancer research and increase public awareness of the disease - The Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK.

Thanks to the generosity of supporters, the Bobby Moore Fund has raised more than £31m since Bobby’s death. The research and awareness made possible by the Bobby Moore Fund have contributed to a fall of more than 30 per cent in mortality rates for bowel cancer.

But bowel cancer is still the second-most common cause of cancer death in the UK, with 46 people losing their life to the disease every day in the UK. We need to continue the mission to tackle it, so people can live longer, better lives free from the fear of bowel cancer.
