Rita Guarino was appointed West Ham United women's team Head Coach on Monday 22 December 2025.
As a player, Guarino racked up 99 appearances for her country on the international stage, representing them at the first FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1991 and scoring in the quarter-finals of the competition against Norway. Ten years later, she was on target against Norway again, this time in the UEFA Women’s Euros. After a spell coaching Italy’s U17s, as mentioned, Guarino made more history when she became Juventus’ first women’s team manager in 2017 - and she surely could not have wished for a better four seasons in charge of Le Bianconere. Building the side from scratch, her first game as Juventus manager set the tone, as her side ran out 13-0 winners against Torino. At the end of the 2017/18 Serie A season, Juventus and Brescia were tied on 60 points, having each lost only two of their 22 league matches all term. But Guarino’s side prevailed in the play-off, winning on penalties to clinch the title at the first time of asking. This proved to be one of four league successes in as many seasons at Juventus for Guarino, and her fourth league title came via a 100 per cent record in 2020/21. She also won two Supercoppa and one Coppa Italia while at the club. Her final match in the Juventus dugout came against Inter Milan on 23 May 2021, who she incidentally joined less than a month later.
