Jeremy has over 35 years’ experience of promoting diversity and inclusion and developing practical solutions in the public, private and voluntary and community sector. 

Jeremy Crook OBE is the Chief Executive of ARE. His current roles also include: Metropolitan Police Service External Advisory Board (Chaired by the Commissioner); GLA Violence Reduction Unit Partnership Reference Group (Chaired by Mayor of London); HMPPS External Advice and Scrutiny Panel (Chair); EQUAL National Independent Advisory Group (Vice Chair) and Thames Water’s Customer Challenge Group.

With over 20 years of NHS Board experience, Marie is currently the Chair of the NHS North East London Integrated Care System, Chair of the NHS Race and Health Observatory and an Associate NED for the UK Health Security Agency. She is also a Commissioner on the IPPR Commission on Health and Prosperity. Regionally, Marie is Co-Chair of the London People Board and is a member of the Greater London Authority’s London Health Board, where she is also the London Mayor’s Champion for Tackling Structural Racism. Marie contributes to her local community as a Trustee on two charities, West Ham United Foundation and East London Business Alliance.

Her previous Chair role was at East London NHS Foundation Trust, which is internationally acknowledged for its systematic approach to quality improvement and service user participation. Through this role she has participated in international events, delivering workshops on the Board’s role in quality improvement. Prior to this, Marie chaired commissioning organisations with budgets up to £3bn and her first role was as Vice Chair of an acute trust. Marie’s employment background is in local government and not for profit sector, with senior executive experience in social justice, regeneration and equity.

Marie’s contribution to the NHS was recognised through the award of her CBE, her contribution to her local community by the award of Freedom of the London Borough of Newham and her contribution to football by inclusion on the Premier League’s Black Power List. More recently in 2023, Marie received the award of Honorary Doctor of Health Sciences from the Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) and she has been included in the Health Service Journal’s 100 list of the most influential people in health.

Marie has the crucial responsibility of providing high-level oversight and expertise to ensure the protection of children and adults at risk. This involves actively fostering a culture of accountability and driving ongoing improvement. As the nominated Safeguarding Board representative, Marie ensures robust lines of communication between the Board of Trustees and the Foundation’s Head of Safeguarding. She also ensures that safeguarding is a standing and regular item on the Board meeting agenda. The appointment of Marie, a non-member of staff, eliminates any potential conflict of interest related to the governance of safeguarding.


Jeffrey HayesJeffrey Hayes OBE

Jeff spent over 40 years in the City of London in the Fund Management industry, formally retiring in 2010. In the 10 years prior to his retirement he was the Managing Director responsible for the Charity client base of Cazenove Capital Management. In this role he was responsible for over 400 Charity clients with total assets of £2.6bn. He also worked for County NatWest, Phillips & Drew and UBS. Following his formal retirement in 2010 Jeff decided to use his financial and business experience to take up several appointments in the voluntary sector. In addition to his Trustee role at the West Ham Foundation, he is Chairman of the Trust for London, an Advisor to the Board of Trustees at Carers UK, and sits on the Investment Committees of St John’s Foundation in Bath, The Scouts Association and the Standard Life Foundation. In June 2020, Jeff retired from the role of Chairman of Governors at the King’s School Ely having served for 10 years.
