
Having impressed at U16 level, Lanre Awesu signed a full-time Scholarship ahead of the 2024/25 season after two years with the Academy of Football. Commended for his attitude as well as his shot stopping, Awesu has been described as a giant of a goalkeeper who commands his area with real presence.
Awesu helped the U18s reach the Premier League Cup final for the first time, saving a penalty in their quarter-final tie against Manchetser United in the penalty shootout and starting in the 3-1 semi-final victory over Derby County. In between the two knockout fixtures, he made his Premier League 2 debut for the U21s, keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 away victory, also at Derby County.
During his first year as a scholar, Awesu featured in four England U17s camps as Neil Ryan's Young Lions secured qualification for the 2025 U17 European championships in Albania. He kept a clean sheet on his Young Lions debut in a 5-0 victory over Mexico in September 2024, registered an assist against Belgium and saved a penalty against the Netherlands.
Awesu signed his first professional contract in April 2025.
