On This Day: West Ham book Littlewoods Cup progress at Watford

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

West Ham United won through to the Littlewoods Cup fourth round with a thrilling 3-2 victory at Watford on this day in 1986.

A topsy-turvy tie saw the Hammers go 1-0 up through Paul Goddard's 12th-minute opener before Kenny Jackett equalised from the penalty spot three minutes after half-time following a foul by Tony Gale.

Alan Dickens put the Irons back in front on 52 minutes before Mark Ward seemingly sealed the visitors' progress nine minutes later.

However, David Bardsley's diving header set up a grandstand finish and John Barnes missed a glorious opportunity to earn the Hornets a replay.
