On This Day: West Ham impress Greenwood in Arsenal win

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

West Ham United scored a 3-1 win over Arsenal on this day 36 years ago!

It was 27 October 1984 when the Hammers welcomed the Gunners to the Boleyn Ground for a First Division fixture, with former manager Ron Greenwood in attendance.

And the legendary FA Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup winning manager would have been delighted to see the Irons race into a two-goal lead through strikes from Tony Cottee and Paul Goddard - both assisted by Greenwood's long-time captain Billy Bonds.

Winger Ian Allinson pulled a goal back for Don Howe's side, but West Ham would not be denied the three points as Geoff Pike completed the scoring four minutes after half-time.

The victory lifted John Lyall's West Ham to fifth in the table.
