On This Day: Porfirio helps Hammers stun Rovers

Taking a look back at a classic West Ham United moment on this day in history, in association with RoadX Tyres...

West Ham United added to Blackburn Rovers' woes with a 2-1 Premier League win at the Boleyn Ground on this day in 1996.

Blackburn, who were being managed by caretaker boss Tony Parks following the departure of Ray Harford, had failed to win any of their opening ten matches and sat bottom of the table with just four points.

But struggling Rovers took the lead when Jason Wilcox's corner was flicked on by Tim Sherwood and swept into the bottom corner by Norwegian defender Henning Berg inside eight minutes.

The unmarked Wilcox could have made the game safe for the visitors with 20 minutes remaining, but blasted his left-foot shot well over the crossbar from just 16 yards.

It was to prove a costly miss as the Hammers turned the game around in the final 13 minutes.

First, Portuguese forward Hugo Porfirio slammed high into the net from Iain Dowie's cross, then Ian Bishop picked out Stan Lazaridis and his centre was headed into his own net by the unfortunate Berg.

Enjoy the comeback again here!
