Five West Ham United women's team players were involved in international action on Tuesday evening.
Jess Ziu helped the Republic of Ireland to a superb 3-1 victory over France in their final UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 qualifying match, as they ended their campaign on a high.
The winger was substituted late on in the big victory in Cork, Ireland’s first in League A Group 3. Eileen Gleeson's side were already assured of a play-off place for next year's tournament in Switzerland heading into the clash, but secured an impressive result thanks to second-half strikes from Denise O’Sullivan, Julie-Ann Russell and Anna Patten.
Vicki Bècho did manage to pull a goal back for the away side, which came between Russell and Patten’s goals, but they couldn’t find a way back into the game, and Ziu and her teammates were able to celebrate a historic first-ever win over France.
Jessie Stapleton was an unused substitute in the victory.
Elsewhere in Euro 2025 qualifying action, Kirsty Smith featured for Scotland as they also ended their campaign with a win, beating Serbia 1-0 in a tightly-contested affair at Firhill Stadium in Glasgow.
The victory in League B Group 2 sealed their promotion back to Group A, having been relegated in December at the end of a disappointing run that saw them finish winless.
This time around, Scotland have been ruthless, and Kirsty Hanson’s goal in the 39th minute made sure they came away with an unbeaten qualifying campaign that has seen them score 13 goals and concede only once in their six outings.
Halle Houssein came on for the final 15 minutes of Türkiye's resounding 4-1 victory over Hungary in League B Group 1. The 19-year-old was making her second appearance for her country having made her debut in a defeat to Switzerland last Friday.
Busem Şeker, Elif Keskin, Birgül Sadıkoğlu and Kader Hançar were on the scoresheet for Türkiye in the victory, which sees them qualify for a play-off spot and secure their place in League B for the next round of UEFA Nations League matches.
Amber Tysiak featured for Belgium in their narrow 2-0 defeat to current world champions Spain.
The defender was at the heart of the backline as the Red Flames fell to goals from Aitana Bonmatí and Teresa Abelleira Dueñas in their final match.
Belgium finished up in third place in League A Group 2 and will now look forward to the play-offs.
Kinga Szemik was also on the losing side, as Poland were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Iceland on home soil in League A Group 4.
Poland knew that they had already secured a play-off spot and been relegated to League B for Nations League qualifying before kick-off at Zagłębiowski Park Sportowy, but Sveindís Jónsdóttir’s second-half goal confirmed that they would finish their qualifying campaign without any points.
Those involved in Euro 2025 qualifying action will now prepare to return for pre-season with the Hammers at the end of July, ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 season.
