Shelina Zadorsky is looking forward to getting the second half of the 2023/24 season underway with West Ham United women’s team.
The 31-year-old defender became Rehanne Skinner’s second signing of the winter transfer window on Wednesday 3 January 2024, adding experience and leadership to the team’s backline.
With Zadorsky closing in on 100 caps for Canada, plus nearly 60 appearances in the Barclays Women’s Super League, the Ontario native knows what it’s like to play at the top of the game, and she is looking forward to helping the Hammers climb the league table.
Having been captain for Tottenham Hotspur during Skinner’s tenure in charge, which included a 5th placed finish, Spurs’ highest since joining the top division, Zadorsky is also looking forward to being out on the pitch and playing for the manager once again.
Speaking with West Ham TV, Zadorsky is excited to get things underway in east London...
It feels really good to be here and I’m excited to get going!
I think the Club has so much potential, and just being a defender and hopefully being able to come in and help and bring a bit of presence to keep more clean sheets.
I’ve worked with Rehanne before and we have a great relationship, she’s a coach who knows how to get the best out of me. This is an exciting group and there’s a lot of talented players and I see a lot of potential.
I’m really looking forward to working with her again, and I think we’ve had time to develop a good relationship over the years. She knows how to push me and challenge me in ways that gets me to my best form and be the defender I know I can be for the team.
Here's seven things you need to know about Zadorsky!
I’m a lively person, and I like to be positive and energetic.
I always try and play that way in the backline, making sure we’re all connected; I like to communicate a lot and keep that cohesiveness in the back line.
I love to get into 1v1 duels and use my left foot and work on my passing distribution and range and hopefully I can bring all of that.
I want to bring in my experience and help the team and get the Club results, it’s a great team so hopefully I can come in and help us not concede, help us create and get more chances moving up the pitch.
I just want to bring in my experience and also some leadership to be able to communicate and learn from all the players here.
There’s still a lot of the season left to go, and I’m looking forward to playing my part.
Results can easily sway either way and I think that’s what the club wants to do and I want to be a part of that in the second half of the season.
I met all the players and staff for the first time today, everyone was really friendly and welcoming.
I know a few of the girls and already had connections with some of them which was really nice to see them and I can’t wait to get on the pitch.
