The Opposition

After a stuttering start to the 2023/24 campaign, Arsenal have found their groove as they enter the second half of the season. The Gunners, alongside Manchester City are hoping to topple Chelsea’s dominance this season, and currently sit three points behind the champions heading into today’s game.

And with the likes of Viviane Miedema and Leah Williamson returning from long-term injuries, Jonas Eidevall’s team will be looking to finish the second half of the campaign strongly, whilst also fighting in both cup competitions.

Eidevall began his coaching career in his native Sweden as an assistant coach at Lunds BK. Three and a half years later, in 2009, he took over as the club’s head coach. Whilst at the helm, he led his team to a first-place finish in Division 2.

Jonas Eidevall

The 38-year-old made the move to the women’s game in 2012 when he became assistant coach FC Rosengård. Eidevall then became their head coach a year later in 2013. The Swede was a crucial part of his team’s success at FC Rosengård as they achieved back to back Damallsvenskan titles in 2013 and 2014.

A brief stint as Henrik Larsson’s assistant manager at Helsingborgs followed this success before he returned to FC Rosengård and guided his squad to a league title, the 2018 Swedish Cup and the Champion’s League quarter-finals.

Eidevall was appointed head coach of Arsenal in June 2021. Since his arrival, he has led his team to a Continental Tyres League Cup win in 2023 whilst also guiding the Gunners to a second and third place finish in the last two years. Eidevall has led Arsenal to 41 wins in 56 WSL games, claiming three Manager of the Month awards in the process.

From the manager

"Every week we approach games in that we want to get as many points out of them as possible," Skinner told reporters in Thursday's pre-match press conference.

"With all of the teams at the top, it’s already been proven that teams can take points off of anybody in this league. You have to turn up and be at your best on the day and give it everything that you’ve got.

"I think the way that the players are working together, bonding as a group and the mindset that they have, it shows that we’re capable of creating an upset and, at some point, that will come.

"If it’s this weekend, then fantastic, we’ll take that. We just have to keep working towards what we’re trying to achieve. We have to believe we’re going to get points out of every game, so that will be our approach this weekend."
