Rottnest Island

Women’s team stars visit Rottnest Island before meeting supporters in central Perth

West Ham United’s women’s team’s stars were out and about in Western Australia on Friday, first taking the ferry to Rottnest Island before four members of the squad caught up with supporters at an event at Elizabeth Quay.

Following their Perth International Football Cup opener against Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday, the players were thrilled to get the opportunity to go to Rottnest, which is located around eleven miles west of the mainland and boasts an abundance of unique flora and fauna, white-sand beaches and rich cultural heritage.

Arguably the most exciting part of the trip was the chance to see the quokkas. Around 10,000 of the smiling macropds - which are related to the kangaroo and wallaby - can be found on the island, and the Hammers took plenty of photos as they cycled around looking to catch a glimpse of Rottnest’s most popular resident.

Upon their return to the city, Kinga Szemik, Amber Tysiak, Viviane Asseyi and Halle Houssein drew an incredible crowd as they attended a Perth International Football Cup fan meet-and-greet.

All four teams involved in the competition were represented at the event, with players from Manchester City, Leicester City and PSG joining the Irons’ quartet in engaging with supporters who had travelled from all corners of Australia for autographs and selfies.

While fans were given the chance to pick the brains of the West Ham stars during a Q&A session, they all took the opportunity to visit the Club’s eye-catching gazebo, where there was a spin-the-wheel competition offering some brilliant prizes.

The Irons are set to return to match action in the Perth International Football Cup third-place play-off against Leicester at 2.05pm AWST on Sunday, when they will be hoping to earn a positive result before heading back to the UK on Monday.
