Women's Loan Watch | Stapleton stars for Sunderland, Martinez continues strong start to SC Freiburg loan

Our weekly look at how West Ham United women’s team’s loanees are performing for their respective clubs...

Lots of West Ham United loanees performed for their respective clubs at the weekend.

Jessie Stapleton and Keira Flannery helped Sunderland to a hard-fought 3-3 draw at Charlton in the Barclays Women’s Championship season on Sunday, with the former grabbing her first goal.

Katie Kitching and Stapleton gave the Lasses a commanding two-goal lead inside the opening 24 minutes before Kayleigh Barton’s header halved the deficit just after the half-hour mark.

Jenna Dear’s second half volley had Sunderland cruising and appeared to have wrapped up the points for the Lasses, only for a late capitulation, which saw them concede twice inside the final nine minutes.

Karin Muya responded with a goal in the 81st minute, breaking through the visitors’ defence and finding the back of the net, and just four minutes later, the forward scored her second of the game to rescue a point for the Addicks at The Valley.

Fellow loanee Princess Ademiluyi also featured in the match, coming on as a 67th minute substitute for Charlton, who remain top of the table with 13 points from five matches played. Sunderland are eighth, with four points from four games.

Macey Nicholls, who is on dual-registration terms with National League South side Hashtag United, was also on the scoresheet in her side's 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon women.

Essex-based Hashtag are top of the table with 19 points from eight games played.

Katelin Talbert was an unused substitute as Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 3-2 at home by Liverpool in the Women's Super League.

In Germany, another one of our loanees was integral for her respective club. Shekiera Martinez continued her impressive start to life at SC Freiburg, playing 70 minutes and registering an assist for the opening goal to help set her side on their way to a 3-0 Frauen-Bundesliga win over 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam.

Victory saw Martinez and her teammates move up to fourth position in the Frauen-Bundesliga standings.

Inès Belloumou was not involved as Lazio defeated Sassuolo 3-2 in Serie A Women in Italy.
