Women's Loan Watch | Nicholls helps Hashtag United to victory

Our weekly look at how West Ham United women’s team’s loanees are performing for their respective clubs...

Lots of West Ham United loanees were in action for their respective clubs at the weekend.

Starting with young midfielder Macey Nicholls, who played 90 minutes for Hashtag United in their hard-fought 2-1 win over Gwalia United in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.

A double from attacker Freda Ayisi would prove the difference in the end for the Tags, as Nicholls continued her impressive start to life on loan with another strong performance in the third division.

The 18-year-old midfielder has already played eleven times for Hashtag this term, scoring four goals.

Jessie Stapleton played for Sunderland in the Barclays Women's Championship as they narrowly lost 2-1 to Newcastle in the Tyne-Wear Derby.

A crowd of over 15,000 watched the match at the Stadium of Light, a new record for a Championship fixture, as a double from Newcastle’s Beth Lumsden set the Magpies on their way to victory. Emily Scarr pulled one back with just over ten minutes of normal time remaining, but it would be Newcastle who would take home the bragging rights from the season’s first derby contest.

Keira Flannery was an unused substitute for Sunderland in the defeat.

Next up for Stapleton and Flannery is a trip to fellow local rivals Durham on 20 October, with kick-off set for 12pm at Maiden Castle.

Staying with second division action, Princess Ademiluyi was handed further minutes from the substitutes bench as Charlton Athletic went down 2-0 to London City Lionesses.

Ademiluyi came onto the pitch on 68 minutes but couldn’t help Karen Hills’ Addicks find a route back into the contest after Isobel Goodwin and Sofia Jakobsson both found the net during the second half.

The result means Charlton remain on 13 points along with Birmingham and London City Lionesses, but in third place on the virtue of an inferior goal difference.

Inès Belloumou was an unused substitute for Lazio in their 0-0 draw with Napoli in Serie A Women in Italy.

Goalkeeper Katelin Talbert was also an unused substitute for Tottenham Hotspur in their 3-0 defeat to Manchester United in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
