Jessie Stapleton

Women's Loan Watch | Mixed fortunes as four loanees feature

Three West Ham United women's team players were in competitive action for their respective loan clubs over the course of the weekend.

In the Barclays Women’s Championship, Jessie Stapleton completed the 90 minutes of Sunderland’s 3-0 defeat at home to Southampton, while Keira Flannery was an unused substitute.

The hosts had the chance to capitalise on a positive opening period after 37 minutes when Fran Stenson brought down Emily Scarr at the end of a counter-attack, but Stenson made amends as Eleanor Dale was denied from the penalty spot.

Southampton took the lead after 73 minutes as Rianna Dean slotted underneath the advancing Demi Lambourne before the same player doubled the visitors’ lead eleven minutes later with a stunning 30-yard lobbed effort.

Molly Pike completed the rout deep into stoppage time to condemn Stapleton’s side to a second consecutive league defeat.

Princess Ademiluyi was a late substitute in Charlton Athletic’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United in the same division, as the Addicks registered a first away victory against the Blades in five years.

Ellie Brazil was the goalscoring hero for the visitors with a crisp strike into the bottom corner from Carla Humphrey’s pass.

Finishing overseas, Inès Belloumou continued her positive start to life on loan with Lazio, playing 74 minutes of the 1-1 draw away at Sampdoria in Serie A Femminile.

Nora Heroum looked to have won the game for Sampdoria when the substitute opened the scoring after 72 minutes, but as the game came to an end, the visitors rescued a point through Federica D’Auria.

The draw was Lazio's second in their opening two games, leaving them fifth in the ten-team table.

On Monday evening, Shekeira Martinez scored her first goal for SC Freiburg in their 3-2 victory over Hoffenheim.

The 23-year-old forward came off the bench in the 72nd minute at the Dietmar-Hopp-Stadion in Sinsheim, and slotted what would be the winning goal with two minutes of the contest remaining, securing Freiburg their first league win of the campaign.

It means that Martinez and her teammates move up to sixth position in the Frauen-Bundesliga standings.
