Four of West Ham United's women's team loanees were in action for their respective clubs at the weekend.
Shekiera Martinez continued her scoring form by netting the first goal in SC Freiburg’s 4-1 home win over RB Leipzig in Germany’s Frauen-Bundesliga.
The on-loan 23-year-old opened the scoring on 33 minutes at the Dreisamstadion, before further goals from Annabel Schasching and Core Zicai stretched Freiburg’s lead to 3-0. Marleen Schimmer pulled one back for the away side before Eileen Campbell’s added-time goal completed a comprehensive win for Martinez and her team.
Freiburg sit fifth in the table after seven matchdays with 13 points, five behind leaders Bayern Munich.
Jessie Stapleton helped Sunderland claim local bragging rights as they scored a 2-1 Women’s Championship win at Durham.
Hannah Blake put Durham in front at a rainy Durham University Sports Centre, but Sunderland got back on level terms through Eleanor Dale’s penalty eleven minutes before half-time.
The Black Cats took the River Wear derby honours when a loose ball in the Durham penalty area was tucked away by Mary McAteer six minutes into the second half. Stapleton’s fellow Hammers loanee Keira Flannery was an unused substitute.
In the same division, Princess Ademiluyi’s Charlton Athletic scored two stoppage-time goals in as many minutes to draw 3-3 at Newcastle United.
Newcastle’s Shania Hayles scored twice in the opening 14 minutes before Katie Bradley pulled one back for Charlton at the start of the second half. Hayles restored Newcastle’s two-goal cushion from the penalty spot to complete her hat-trick.
Ademiluyi was sent on with nine minutes to play, replacing her former West Ham teammate Mel Filis. Another former Hammer, Newcastle captain Amber-Keegan Stobbs, was then sent-off for the hosts and the south London side took advantage as Kayleigh Barton netted in the 94th minute to give Charlton hope before Ademiluyi was involved in the move that ended with Bradley bagging her second to secure an unlikely point.
Sunderland’s win keeps them seventh in the ten-team table, while Charlton’s draw means they are second, two points behind leaders Birmingham City.
In Italy, Inès Belloumou played the opening half of Lazio’s 3-2 defeat at Fiorentina.
The scoreline was 1-1 when the West Ham loanee was replaced, as Agnese Bonfantini put Fiorentina in front on 12 minutes before Eleonora Goldoni equalised a minute before the break.
Following Belloumou’s departure, Cecilie Fiskerstrand’s own-goal put Lazio in front. Michela Catena leveled for Fiorentina before Lazio’s Martina Piemonte missed a penalty and was made to pay a minute later when Bonfantini’s second goal secured the win for the home side. Defeat leaves Lazio seventh in Serie A.
In the Women’s Super League, goalkeeper Katelin Talbert was an unused substitute for Tottenham Hotspur in their 5-2 defeat at Chelsea.
