Women's Loan Watch | Martinez helps Freiburg to Bayern Munich draw

Three of West Ham United women’s team’s loanees were in action for their respective temporary clubs at the weekend.

In Germany, Shekiera Martinez started for SC Freiburg in their home battle against third-placed Bayern Munich, which saw the hosts squander a two-goal lead on Friday night.

The 23-year-old led the line as her side found themselves 2-0 up at the break, courtesy of first-half goals from Lisa Karl and Cora Zicai. Alara Şehitler halved the deficit five minutes after the break and Martinez was then substituted off with seven minutes of the contest remaining, as Freiburg looked to hold on for what would have been their fifth win of the campaign.

However, Weronika Zawistowska struck for Bayern in the first minute of added time to ensure the visitors claimed a late point to extend their unbeaten run to four matches in all competitions.

Despite conceding late on, Freiburg remain sixth in the Frauen-Bundesliga standings.

Elsewhere, Inès Belloumou was substituted on at half-time for Lazio, looking to turn their home contest against Inter Milan around on Sunday, but Chiara Robustellini’s goal after half-an-hour was enough for the third-placed home outfit to claim all three points.

Belloumou’s side sit seventh in the ten-team Serie A table and three points off bottom-of-the-standings Sampdoria.

In the Barclays Women’s Championship, Keira Flannery came on with 13 minutes remaining to help her Sunderland side see out a 2-1 victory at home to Blackburn.

An arrowed left-footed strike into the bottom corner from Katie Kitching gave the Lasses the lead but in first-half stoppage time, Blackburn restored parity via Emma Taylor’s close-range finish.

It was on 73 minutes that the home side regained their advantage, when Eleanor Dale fired the ball home at the near post, and Flannery was brought on moments later to help guide the North-East outfit to their fourth win of the campaign.

Fellow Hammers loanee Jessie Stapleton, who had started every league match for eighth-placed Sunderland before Sunday, missed the victory over Blackburn through suspension after she received her fifth yellow card of the season in a seven-goal thriller against Bristol City the week before.

Elsewhere in the division, Princess Ademiluyi and Charlton Athletic were without a match at the weekend.

And in the Barclays Women’s Super League, goalkeeper Katelin Talbert was not in the Tottenham Hotspur matchday squad that suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat at top-of-the-table Manchester City on Friday night.

A hat-trick from Khadija Shaw alongside a goal from Jill Roord saw unbeaten City cruise to a sixth win of the campaign, leaving Spurs seventh in the standings.
