Women's Loan Watch: Debuts for Katelin Talbert & Macey Nicholls

West Ham United Women’s Katelin Talbert and Macey Nicholls made their first competitive appearances of their respective loan spells.

Talbert joined West Ham this summer after leaving Campeonato Nacional Feminino Champions SL Benfica in June but was loaned out to Swedish Damallsvenskan side Djurgårdens IF to accumulate the necessary points to meet the Governing Body Endorsements [GBE] for international player visas.

Currently tenth in the league standings, Blåränderna returned to action after their mid-summer break to draw 1-1 with Kristianstads DFF on Monday evening in what was their first league fixture since 9 July.

The American goalkeeper played the full 90 minutes for 'The Blue Stripes' at Stockholm Olympic Stadium and saw her side take the lead on 61 minutes when Stinalisa Johansson found the net with an outstanding effort from range that curled beyond the opposition goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.

However, the away side grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser, as veteran defender Maria Therese Olivia Ivarsson nodded home and stop Talbert from clinching a first clean sheet of her loan spell.

Djurgårdens are back in action on Sunday 10 September when they travel to third-placed Hammarby.

Elsewhere, Nicholls was handed her first minutes for Hashtag United after joining the FA Women’s National League South side on dual-registration terms.

Nicholls is a graduate of the West Ham Foundation Player Pathway, and has joined the Essex based outfit to continue with her development whilst also training with Rehanne Skinner's first team squad throughout 2023/24.

The 16-year-old midfielder came off the bench in the 62nd minute as the Tags beat Oxford United 2-1 on Sunday.

A first half double from Samantha Rowland helped them to secure their second victory of the season.

Nicholls could next feature for Hashtag United against Ipswich Town at Parkside on Wednesday 6 September.
