West Ham United Women’s April internationals – All You Need To Know

The final international break of the 2021/22 women's football season is here, and several West Ham United players will be in action for their countries across the globe.

Let's take a look at who will be in action over the course of the next ten days...

Who has been called up?

A total of ten of our players will be involved for their respective countries, playing a mixture of FIFA World Cup qualifiers and friendly matches.

Most notably, Dagný Brynjarsdóttir is in line to pick up her 100th cap for Iceland as they face off against Belarus and the Czech Republic in World Cup qualifying. Her side currently trail UEFA Group C leaders the Netherlands by two points, having played one game fewer.

Hawa Cissoko and France will also be look secure their place at the 2023 World Cup with games against Wales and Slovenia in Group I, which they have dominated thus far, winning six out of six and scoring a huge 37 goals with just two conceded.

Also boasting a perfect win record of six from six thus far, Denmark and Emma Snerle will travel to Malta before welcoming Azerbaijan to Scandinavia as they look to qualify by topping Group E.

Lisa Evans could also be in action for Scotland, as they face Spain at Hampden Park.

Away from competitive qualifiers, Adriana Leon has joined up with Canada for two friendly matches against Nigeria, whilst Tameka Yallop and Mackenzie Arnold are away with Australia, who will take on neighbours New Zealand in two friendly games.

Grace Fisk, Mel Filis and Lucy Parker have been called-up to the England U23 squad for two friendly games against the Netherlands. This is the third time that the West Ham trio have all been called up this season.

Where and when will they play?

The action all begins on Thursday, when Brynjarsdóttir’s Iceland face Belarus at Voždovac Stadium in Belgrade, Serbia – a stadium located on top of a shopping centre (yes, you read that right)!

Then, on Friday, seven of our Hammers could be in action.

In World Cup qualification, Denmark face Malta in Ta’Qali, as Snerle and co look to earn top spot in the group – which they will subsequently do with a win.

Hawa Cissoko will be hoping to be in the squad as France take on Wales at Parc y Scarlets in Group I. The French would secure top spot and subsequently qualify for the 2023 World Cup if they avoid defeat.

Heading down under, Yallop and Arnold face New Zealand in the first of two friendly matches in Queensland.

Closer to home, and Fisk, Filis and Parker will be in action for the Young Lionesses in Murcia, Spain.

The following day, Leon will earn her 77th cap for Canada if she appears in their first of two friendly matches against Nigeria.

Moving into the following week, Fisk, Filis and Parker face the Netherlands again on Monday 11 April.

On Tuesday 12 April, the final round of matches take place for our Hammers.

In World Cup qualifying, Brynjarsdóttir and Iceland face the Czech Republic; Cissoko and France face Slovenia; Snerle and Denmark face Azerbaijan; and Evans and Scotland take on Spain.

Yallop and Arnold take on New Zealand at the GIO Stadium in the Australian capital of Canberra, whilst Canada will face Nigeria for the second time, with Leon hoping to add another cap to her name in Langford, BC.
