West Ham United sign Finland midfielder Oona Siren

West Ham United women’s team are delighted to confirm the signing of Finland international Oona Siren

The midfielder has signed a two-year contract in east London, becoming Rehanne Skinner’s eighth signing of the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old joins from LSK Kvinner where she made 19 appearances in the women’s Toppserien, the top division of Norwegian football, providing four assists.

Before joining the Lillestrøm-based outfit, Siren played for Finnish top division sides Tikkurila Palloseura [TiPS] and Kuopio Palloseura [KuPS]. During her time with KuPS, she won the Kansallinen Liiga titles in both 2022 and 2023, also appearing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League qualifying rounds on six occasions.

On the international stage, Siren has represented Finland a total of 14 times since making her senior debut against Slovakia in April 2023. She was part of the squad that defeated Scotland on penalties to win the 2024 Pinatar Cup earlier this year and has also featured in the UEFA Women’s Nations League.

Siren will wear the No4 shirt in east London and is looking forward to the opportunity to play for West Ham United in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

“I’m really excited to be joining West Ham United. It feels amazing to be here,” she told West Ham TV.

"I’m looking forward to the challenge of playing in England. I know the Barclays Women’s Super League is the best league in the world and I want to test myself against the best players and the best teams.

"My experience of playing for Finland and in the Champions League has given me the motivation to keep pushing to be the best player I can be. I know that coming to West Ham and working in this environment will help my development as a player. I can’t wait to get started.”

Skinner shared her delight in adding another young, talented player to her squad ahead of the new season, which begins with a mouth-watering tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday 21 September.

“We’re really pleased to welcome Oona to the Club,” said Skinner.

“Oona is a young, exciting player with a huge amount of talent and potential. We have been impressed with her consistency for LSK Kvinner and I’m sure her work ethic and tenacity will allow her to adjust to the demands of the Barclays Women’s Super League.

“Oona is an attacking midfielder who fits our style of play and, as a forward-thinking attacking midfielder with versatility across multiple positions, I’m sure she will be a real asset to the team moving forwards.”

Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Oona to the Club and wish her every success in Claret and Blue.
