West Ham United Foundation Launches 2025 London Marathon Campaign

West Ham United Foundation launches 2025 London Marathon campaign

The West Ham United Foundation is delighted to announce the launch of its 2025 London Marathon campaign, with an ambitious goal to raise £50,000 in support of the transformative Beckton Community Hub redevelopment.

Taking place on Sunday 27 April 2025, the London Marathon is one of the prestigious marathon’s worldwide and offers an unparalleled atmosphere, with vibrant London crowds lining the 26.2-mile course past some of the city’s most iconic landmarks.

Why We Run: The Need for Critical Funds

This year’s campaign is more crucial than ever as we enter the final stages of the Beckton Community Hub project. This redevelopment will create a welcoming, inclusive, and inspiring space where people of all ages can connect, grow, and access the support they need. The Hub will be a beacon for the east London community, fostering stronger, brighter futures. Every stride our runners take, and every donation received will be a step closer to realising this vision.

Meet Team West Ham United Foundation 2025

This year, we are proud to introduce three inspiring individuals who will represent the Foundation on marathon day, each bringing their unique story and passion for the cause.

Jiri Svarc
West Ham United Board Member

“Hi, I’m Jiri Svarc, a West Ham United board member and lifelong supporter. My love for the Club started when Luděk Mikloško joined West Ham from the Czech first division. A standout memory for me is our 2023 Conference League victory in Prague, a historic moment I shared with my family.

“I’ve run marathons in Prague and Athens, as well as the Grossglockner 60km Ultra-Trail and Sweden’s 90km Vasaloppet ski race. Running the London Marathon in 2023 was a challenge I embraced to support the Foundation, and I’m honoured to do it again in 2025, this time alongside Matt and Hans.

“For me, it’s not about personal achievement but about helping the Foundation provide opportunities for east London’s youth. Training while balancing work is tough, but the cause keeps me motivated. Please consider donating to help us make a real difference in the community.”

Mathew Smith
West Ham United Supporter & Non-Profit Founder

“Hi, I’m Matthew Smith, a 27-year-old West Ham supporter from the United States and the founder of a non-profit housing business that helps essential workers like teachers and nurses find stable paths to homeownership. The London Marathon will be my fourth Abbott World Major Marathon, following Chicago (2022), New York (2023), and Berlin (2024).

“I’m excited to experience the London course’s incredible atmosphere, iconic landmarks, and energetic crowds. While I’m a bit wary of the hills—having mostly run flatter courses—I’m ready for the challenge.

“Running for the West Ham United Foundation means supporting the powerful impact the Club has on east London communities. Football unites us, and I’m proud to run for a cause that makes a real difference. Please support me in raising vital funds for the Foundation.”

Matthew Smith

Hans Louis
Executive Performance Chef, Rush Green Training Ground

“Hello! I’m Hans Louis, Executive Performance Chef at Rush Green and proud father to Carter, Cuba, and Hali. This will be my first London Marathon, and my goal is simple: finish with pride!

“I’ve heard that Canary Wharf can be a tough part of the course, but I’m preparing for it. As I train, I’m constantly reminded of the Foundation’s incredible work supporting children and families in need. I’ve even had the privilege of participating in Foundation activities and witnessing firsthand how they create opportunities for young people to succeed, regardless of their background.

“I’m running to raise funds for this amazing cause. Every donation, big or small, makes a real difference. Thank you for supporting me and the West Ham United community.”

Hans Louis
