West Ham United women’s team are delighted to confirm the appointment of Stephen Healy as first-team coach.
Healy joins Rehanne Skinner’s backroom team having spent the last ten years at Leicester City as the Foxes’ International Academy Head Coach and Academy Youth Development Phase Coach, working with players in the U12-U16 age groups.
A sports science graduate, Healy began his coaching career in the United States as player development officer at New York Red Bulls, before moving to Northampton Town as senior football development officer and later Boys Centre of Excellence coach. He then spent three years with The Football Association as a regional youth officer before being appointed by Leicester City in 2014.
Healy is ready to get started in his new role at Chadwell Heath and is looking forward to supporting manager Skinner, who herself previously oversaw the development of Leicester City women’s team and Girls Centre of Excellence between 2003-11.
“I’m delighted to be joining West Ham United,” said Healy. “I was excited to be given the opportunity to present to Rehanne and the team recently and felt energised and enthused by the long-term vision of the Club.
“I have come up against Rehanne many times over the years and have the upmost respect for the work that she achieved at Leicester City and the foundations that were laid during her tenure.
“I’m now looking forward to being part of this project and I hope I can use my experience to develop the current crop of players at West Ham United.”
Skinner is delighted to be adding Healy to her coaching team, citing his experience and passion for the women’s game as major reasons for his appointment.
“I’m really pleased to have Steve join us,” said the manager. “Steve has a wealth of experience working across different levels of the game, including within the women’s game. Steve will help us to build confidence around our attacking play whilst also managing and enhancing our players’ individual development programmes.
“He has a proven track record in improving the performances of senior players, as well as transitioning youth players into the first team. Both are qualities that will be well suited for the role that we have created at West Ham United.
“Having two daughters of his own, one already in an Academy programme, Steve is a huge advocate for the women’s game, and we know he will be a real asset for us moving forwards.”
Everyone at West Ham United would like to welcome Stephen to the Club, and we wish him every success in his new role.
