James Ward-Prowse insists West Ham United will learn from mistakes in previous Premier League defeats when the Hammers travel to face Brentford.
The Irons make the short trip across London to take on Thomas Frank’s Bees on Saturday afternoon, heading into the match on the back of consecutive league defeats against Aston Villa and Everton.
However, a convincing 3-1 victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday got the Irons back to winning ways.
Ward-Prowse admitted to frustrations in the manner of the defeat to Everton last weekend but knows the quality the squad possess, as shown against the Gunners in midweek.
“It was a disappointing game and result against Everton,” the midfielder said. “By the standards we’ve set ourselves this season, it was well below what we can result. We’ve got a busy schedule though, with games every three days, and there’s an opportunity right around the corner to put it right.
“I think the most frustrating thing would be if we didn’t learn from the games before and keep making the same mistakes. If we learn from them, then I think we’re on a good path.”
By contrast, Brentford head into the match on the back of consecutive Premier League wins, beating Burnley and Chelsea, and Ward-Prowse knows the Hammers will face a challenge at the Gtech Community Stadium.
The No7, who celebrated his 29th birthday this week, knows that the Irons can get three points this weekend.
“I think you always have to take into consideration the opposition but we like to focus on ourselves and play to our strengths. As long as we do that then we can give any team in the league a good game.”
Despite the recent results, Ward-Prowse has enjoyed a fantastic start to life in east London.
Since joining the Hammers from Southampton in the summer, the midfielder has played a role in nine goals in all competitions, and Ward-Prowse is feeling right at home at London Stadium.
“It’s been great,” he added. “We’ve had a good start to the season. When you join a new club, there are a lot of things to take into consideration, but the manager has helped me settle in and given me the confidence to go out and play my football for West Ham.”
