Viviane Asseyi extends contract with West Ham United

West Ham United women’s team are delighted to confirm that Viviane Asseyi has signed a contract extension with the Club.

The forward has put pen-to-paper on a new deal after another season in east London where she scored seven goals in 26 appearances across all competitions, including two superb goals against Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as a penalty in the women’s team’s first ever victory over Arsenal in February.

Asseyi was awarded the 2023/24 Goal of the Season after Hammers fans voted for her strike against Chelsea in January as their favourite goal of the campaign.

The France international has been crucial since her arrival from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, and has missed just one fixture across all competitions throughout her time at the Club. To date, she has made 55 appearances, scoring 13 goals.

Asseyi has played 66 times for her country, including appearances at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The 30-year-old is delighted to be extending her stay with the Hammers and is looking forward to the upcoming campaign.

“I’m really happy to extend my contract at West Ham United and continue playing in the WSL,” Asseyi told whufc.com.

“It can sometimes be difficult for someone to feel at home in another country, but at West Ham I feel like east London is home. I have great support from my teammates, from the staff and everyone involved at the Club. The fans support us home and away, and it feels like a big family.

“I love football - all I want to do is be on the pitch with the girls. I’m already excited to get back with the team in pre-season and for what I hope will be a really positive campaign next season.”

Manager Rehanne Skinner is pleased to have Asseyi as part of her squad as the team prepare to return for pre-season in late July.

“I am delighted that we have extended Viviane’s contract,” said Skinner.

“Vivi is an important asset to the team - we saw proof of that with some vital goals that she scored last season. Our style of play has allowed us to get Vivi on the ball more, where she can be a creative attacking threat and exploit weaknesses in the opposition’s defence.

“We know that Vivi will continue to have a hugely positive impact on the team. I have no doubt there is more to come from her, which is a very exciting prospect looking ahead to next season.”

Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Viviane on her new contract.
