Rehanne Skinner's first January recruit is through the door: our new No29, Verena Hanshaw.
The 31-year-old has arrived in east London to bolster the Irons' defensive ranks, and Hanshaw brings plenty of high-level experience to Chadwell Heath.
Born in Vienna, the versatile defender’s footballing journey began with USC Landhaus Wien in 2009, before moving to Germany to play in the Frauen-Bundesliga with Herforder SV Borussia Friedenstal.
Two years later, Hanshaw joined BV Cloppenburg where she spent the next three seasons, making over 60 appearances and scoring ten times as the Club won promotion to Germany's top flight in 2012/13.
Following moves to SC Freiburg and SC Sand, where she spent two years at each side, Hanshaw signed for Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2018. The Austria international enjoyed a six-year stay at the Frauen-Bundesliga outfit, making more than 110 appearances and featuring in many UEFA Women’s Champions League matches.
Hanshaw then moved to AS Roma last summer and played 13 matches in all competitions for Le Giallorosse, including their 3-1 victory over Fiorentina on 6 January, as her former side clinched the Supercoppa Italiana.
The left-back has also built a successful career with her national team since making her Austria debut in 2011. Boasting more than 100 appearances on the international stage, Hanshaw was the only Austrian to be named in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 Best Eleven after helping her side reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
She has also represented her country at UEFA Women’s Euro 2022, where she started all four matches as Austria reached the quarter-finals of the competition.
