Tysiak helps Belgium to victory, Ziu & Stapleton feature for Republic of Ireland

Amber Tysiak helped Belgium preserve their status in the top tier League A of the UEFA Nations League for the next campaign, as they secured another dominant 5-1 win over Hungary on Tuesday.

After beating Hungary 5-1 in Felcsút on Friday, the Red Flames followed up with the exact same scoreline on Tuesday evening, as they showed their class in the second half of proceedings.

The away side started well at King Power at Den Dreef Stadion, with Zsanett Kajan scoring the opener on 26 minutes, before Tessa Wullaert bagged the first of three goals just before the referee blew for half time.

She added two more before the hour to put the Belgians in control, before substitute Jill Janssens added two goals late on to clinch the game and a commanding 10-2 aggregate scoreline.

Tysiak once again completed the full match at the heart of the back line, and she and her teammates will now prepare for UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 qualifying in Group A.

Elsewhere, both Jess Ziu and Jessie Stapleton were in action as Republic of Ireland lost out 2-0 in a friendly defeat to Wales.

The duo both started in front of a record crowd of over 8,000 at Tallaght Stadium in Dublin, as Wales struck twice in the first quarter of the match and Ireland were unable to find a way back into the game.

The opening goal came in the seventh minute, when a cross wasn’t cleared, and Hayley Ladd teed up Jess Fishlock to apply the finish.

That lead was then doubled when a Rhiannon Roberts cross was played on by Elise Hughes for Lily Woodham to hit the roof of the net on 22 minutes.

Ziu was awarded player of the match for her performance for the Girls in Green, whilst Stapleton featured for 88 minutes in midfield.
