Tomáš Souček signs new West Ham United contract

West Ham United is delighted to announce that Tomáš Souček has signed a contract extension with the Club.

The Czech Republic international midfielder has put pen to paper on a new deal with the Hammers until June 2027.

The 28-year-old has made 182 appearances in all competitions for West Ham since initially joining on loan from SK Slavia Prague in January 2020. Souček’s move was made permanent that summer and the midfielder has been a consistent figure in the Irons squad since.

Souček has netted 30 goals for West Ham since joining the Club, of which eight have come so far this season, including the opening finish in the 2-0 win away at Arsenal on Thursday.

Souček said: “I am very happy to have signed this new contract and very proud that I can continue my career here.

“It has been four years since I joined West Ham United and I have enjoyed every moment. Coming to England was a new experience for me and we have been successful in the time that I have been here.

“We have won a trophy, had good results in the Premier League, and I am happy with myself, that I have played nearly every minute, and I feel that the fans appreciate me here.

“This was a big part of the reason that I wanted to extend my contract with West Ham, because I feel that this is my home now, and I want to achieve even more in the future with this great Club.”

Manager David Moyes is delighted that the No28 has committed his future to the Club.

He said: “We are all pleased that Tomáš has signed a new contract. He has been a fantastic servant for West Ham United in his four years at the Club so far.

“Tomáš did a magnificent job to help us avoid relegation when he first arrived here in 2020, and since then he has played a major part in the progress we have made and the success we have enjoyed.

“He is a model professional, gives absolutely everything for his team every time he steps on the pitch, and is a hugely popular character, loved by the players, staff and everyone at the Club.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Tomáš and wish him more success in his future career with West Ham United.”

Souček’s passion, work-rate and tenacity has shone through during his four years in Claret and Blue. Joining the Hammers on an initial loan deal, the midfielder made an instant impact as he helped West Ham avoid relegation from the Premier League, scoring vital goals in a 3-2 win over Chelsea and a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United.

With the Irons’ status as a Premier League side secured, Souček committed his future to the east London team and would go on to enjoy a prolific 2020/21 campaign, scoring ten goals in all competitions and helping the Hammers to a sixth-place finish in the top flight and a record 65 points.

The midfielder’s efforts saw him named the 2020/21 Hammer of the Year by West Ham supporters.

The 2021/22 season saw Souček play 51 times in all competitions and score another six goals, helping the Irons to seventh place in the Premier League and the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League in the Club’s first campaign back on the international stage.

A further 50 appearances were made in the 2022/23 campaign as Souček helped the Irons win a first piece of major silverware in 43 years, lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League in his home city of Prague in June 2023 following a 2-1 win over ACF Fiorentina.

The midfielder’s immense form so far this campaign, including crucial goals in Premier League wins over Sheffield United, Nottingham Forest, Burnley and, most recently, Arsenal, has played a pivotal role in West Ham’s best-ever points tally at the midway point of a Premier League campaign.

A pair of finishes in the home and away wins over FK TSC in the UEFA Europa League group stages aided the Irons to spot in Group B, securing a place in the round of 16 of the competition come March.

Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Tomáš on his new contract and wish him every success for his future in Claret and Blue.
