Speaking to the Official Matchday Programme, Maxwel Cornet is the latest Hammer to try his luck with the random question generator...
What would you be if you weren’t a footballer?
"I would want to be a fireman. One of my neighbours when I was young, who was also a friend of the family, he was a fireman. So I would always see him out in the uniform and it looked like a really cool job. So I would want to be fireman for sure.
"I’ve not been in a fire truck before, so I need to make that happen."
What is your favourite way to spend your downtime?
"When I get the time, I like to spend it with my family. I have my wife and kids with me in London so I love just spending time with them.
"I also like to play tennis with Alphonse Areola. Alphonse is definitely better than me, but he’s also taller so he’s got the reach. At least, that’s what I put it down to."
What is the best stadium you’ve ever played at?
"The best stadium I have played at in the whole world is definitely the Camp Nou. It was in the 2018/19 season, in the UEFA Champions League, and that Barcelona team was really good.
"I went there with Olympique Lyonnais and, although it was a hard result, it was an incredible stadium."
Who is the most skilful player you’ve ever been on the pitch with?
"It’s a former Barcelona player actually – Neymar. He was just on a different level. Whenever he got the ball we just did not have any idea what he was going to do. He is so tough to defend against."
Dogs or cats?
"I think everyone has seen the video of me with Alphonse Areola’s dog, in the Rush Green car park. I ran away and that video has been sent to me so many times now. But I’m not a big dog person, as you can probably tell, so I’ll go cats.
"My favourite animal is a type of big cat – a cheetah. They are the fastest animals and I have a tattoo of one on my back."
Does your current West Ham United squad number have any significance for you?
"I wear the No17 at West Ham, and the No17 was the first number I wore when I signed my first ever professional contract with Metz in France. It holds a special place with me because of that."
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
"It’s quite broad, but it’s essentially ‘talent without hard work is nothing’. I really believe that you can have all the talent in the world but, if you don’t do the work, it will amount to nothing."
What is one item you cannot live without?
"I’ll say my phone. I expect most people go for their phone. But I’m always on the phone, and I use it to listen to music as well."
If you had a time machine, would you go forwards or backwards in time?
"I’d go forwards. I think going backwards in time would imply that you want to change something that happened in the past, but I would not want to change anything that I’ve done before. I just want to keep moving forward."
Who has had the biggest impact on your career?
"I have to say Alexandre Lacazette, from our time together at Lyon. When I joined the club from Metz, he was always there to give me good advice and help me to get even better. He helped me settle into the team and the city and still, to this day, he’s a very good friend of mine."
Would you rather be a world-famous singer or world-famous actor?
"Definitely an actor. My favourite actor is Jason Statham and I’m a big fan of action films. I could see myself doing my own stunts, jumping from buildings, and having a lot of fun on a film set."
Describe yourself in three words.
"Ambitious, perseverance and hard-working."
