Kalvin Phillips

Team News: Phillips one of four changes for Bournemouth clash

January loan signing Kalvin Phillips is set to make his West Ham United debut at home to AFC Bournemouth on Thursday evening, as one of four changes made to the XI by manager David Moyes.

England international Phillips last featured in the Premier League against the Cherries three months ago in a 6-1 win for Manchester City at Etihad Stadium, and he will be hoping for similar fortunes in his first outing in Claret and Blue.

Phillips becomes the 996th player to make his competitive first-team debut since the Club was reformed at West Ham United in June 1900.

Pablo Fornals makes way for Phillips, while fit-again Edson Álvarez also comes into the midfield in place of Maxwel Cornet, who opened his goalscoring account for the Hammers at Sheffield United last time out.

Álvarez had been absent from West Ham’s last two games through injury, but will line up alongside Phillips, Tomáš Souček and James Ward-Prowse under the lights at London Stadium.

Further up the field, Mohammed Kudus replaces Danny Ings, following his return from the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations. Kudus will be vying to notch a seventh Premier League goal of the season, in his first club game of 2024.

Jarrod Bowen retains his place in attack alongside Kudus, while back in defence Ben Johnson comes in for the suspended Vladimír Coufal. Dinos Mavropanos, skipper Kurt Zouma and Emerson also start, as well as goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, who came off in the dying stages of the Sheffield United draw.

FA Youth Cup winners Kaelan Casey, Lewis Orford and Ollie Scarles keep their spots on the bench from the trip to Bramall Lane, with the trio having started the U21s’ Premier League International Cup victory over Croatia's GNK Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night.
