David Moyes has just two injury concerns heading into Thursday’s UEFA Europa League round of 16 second-leg tie with SC Freiburg at London Stadium.
The Hammers kick-off trailing by a single goal from the first leg in Germany last week, and know they must win on the night to have any chance of progressing to a European quarter-final for the third season in succession.
Two years ago, Moyes’ men were in an identical position against Sevilla but, with the backing of a capacity crowd, roared back to defeat their Spanish opponents in extra-time through goals from Tomáš Souček and Andriy Yarmolenko.
That evening has gone down in West Ham folklore and the Scot will hope his current crop of players, including Souček, who has scored twice already in the Irons’ Europa League campaign, can repeat that achievement.
However, the Hammers may have to do so without Emerson, as the Italian full-back is working his way back to fitness from the leg injury he suffered in the first-leg defeat at the Stadion am Wolfswinkel.
“We'll just need to see how Emerson is, as we're not sure how he is yet, so that would be probably our main one,” Moyes admitted, when asked if he had any team news to share ahead of Thursday’s tie.
The manager conceded that another member of his squad will definitely be ruled out, however.
“Maxi Cornet is back here [at Rush Green] at the moment after being away getting some treatment, so he won't be fit for this game,” Moyes confirmed.
West Ham’s starting XI for the win-or-bust round of 16 tie with Freiburg will be confirmed around an hour before kick-off, at about 4.30pm on Thursday, so stay tuned to the Club’s website, app and social media channels for live updates.
