David Moyes has provided an update on his West Ham United squad ahead of Thursday’s UEFA Europa League Group A finale against SC Freiburg.
The Hammers head into the midweek match at London Stadium knowing a point or three will see them finish top in their European group for a third consecutive campaign but go into the game on the back of a disappointing result away at Fulham in the Premier League.
Moyes confirmed after Sunday’s match at Craven Cottage that some of his team had been dealing with illness, and the manager has offered further information regarding the sickness.
“We’ve had a few people who had a bit of illness,” Moyes told his pre-match press conference. “We’ve still got a few lingering with it in the last day or two, but I think we’re going to be okay.
“We don’t think it’s anything that’s going to stick around for weeks. It’s just a bit of sickness that has kept some of the lads under the weather. Otherwise, I think we’re pretty much as we were.”
West Ham find themselves in the midst of a busy December schedule, one that will see the squad play a total of eleven matches in 38 days across the UEFA Europa League, Premier League and Carabao Cup.
With so many games to consider, the manager indicated the entire West Ham squad will be called upon throughout the festive fixtures.
“I think, undoubtedly, whether it be illness, injury or suspension, all the players will be involved in the coming weeks,” Moyes added.
“The games are coming thick and fast as well, and so we’ll try and prepare, and get the players ready. We’ll put out a team that we think can go and win each game, and we’ll try to do that against Freiburg too.”
