Team News: Moyes offers squad update ahead of Tottenham derby

West Ham United boss David Moyes offered an update on the fitness of his squad ahead of Tuesday night's Premier League clash at home to Tottenham Hotspur.

Following Saturday's dramatic defeat at Newcastle United, the Hammers will be looking to bounce back to winning ways at the first time of asking against Spurs, who they saw off 2-1 in the reverse fixture before Christmas.

They will be without goalkeeper Alphonse Areola for the mouth-watering match-up however, with Moyes confirming that the France international has so-far failed to recover from the groin injury that forced him to be withdrawn at half-time against the Magpies.

We're hopeful that it's not too serious, but he [Areola] won't be available on Tuesday night

Łukasz Fabiański, who completed the second 45 at St James' Park and has kept six clean sheets in 17 appearances in all competitions this term, is set to take over goalkeeping duties under the London Stadium lights.

Moyes said: "Alphonse has hurt his groin. We're hopeful that it's not too serious, but he won't be available on Tuesday night.

"He might be back quite quickly, so we'll just have to see how things develop over the coming days."

Nayef Aguerd

Elsewhere, defender Nayef Aguerd returned to training at Rush Green on Easter Monday, having missed the Newcastle clash with a shoulder problem in the wake of making two appearances for Morocco during the recent international break.

Midfielder Edson Álvarez will be absent once again through suspension, having picked up his tenth yellow card of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in mid-March.

Moyes added: "Nayef has trained today, so we'll need to see how he is on Tuesday in the lead-up to the game.

"Apart from that, we've just got a couple of knocks here and there, and similarly we'll have to make a call on those tomorrow."
