Team News: Moyes offers squad update ahead of Bournemouth clash

West Ham United manager David Moyes provided a fitness update ahead of Thursday evening’s Premier League clash at home to AFC Bournemouth.

The Hammers welcome Andoni Iraola’s Cherries to London Stadium, looking to stretch their unbeaten run in the Premier League to six games and register a first win in three under the lights.

New signing Kalvin Phillips, who arrived on loan from Manchester City late last week, could be set for his first appearance in Claret and Blue against the south coast club, while Moyes suggested that fellow midfielder Edson Álvarez may feature for the first time since 7 January.

He said: “I’m not sure whether Kalvin’s ready to start or not, but he’s been looking good in training so we’ll wait and see.

“He’s a really good player, and his pedigree over the last few years made him someone I really wanted at the club. A couple of years ago Jesse Lingard came in at this time of year and did really well for us, so hopefully Kalvin can have a similar impact. He’s certainly hungry to do that.

Mohammed Kudus

“In a similar position Álvarez is doing much better and will hopefully be available, so we’re starting to look a bit stronger in that area for sure.”

Forward Mohammed Kudus is back in the country following his group-stage exit from the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana, and Moyes also acknowledged Nayef Aguerd’s impending return in the wake of Morocco’s defeat to South Africa at the round of 16 stage in the same competition.

He added: “Mo’s back from AFCON, which is good news for us, and I’m expecting Nayef to be back with us very soon, so we’re gradually getting our depth back and looking stronger.”
