Attention swiftly turned to Saturday's Premier League clash with Manchester United for David Moyes and his West Ham United team.
The Hammers returned to London on Thursday morning following their Carabao Cup exit at Liverpool, and immediately hit the Rush Green training pitches as preparations for the visit of the Red Devils ramped up.
Moyes is eyeing back-to-back league successes for his side and he answered questions on Erik ten Hag's side, bouncing back from Liverpool and fighting hard in the league when he faced the assembled media in his pre-match press conference...
Going again
Mentally it’s a big ask again for the players, but we’ll be up for the game and ready to play. Hopefully we’ll put in a good performance.
It’s a completely different competition. We’re just off the back of a really good league win against Wolves when we won 3-0 at home.
Our form has been pretty good so we want to keep that up and we’ll try to do that against Manchester United.
There’s no time to dwell on Wednesday, not at all, and we won’t.
We’re in a good position in the league. We’re in Europe, we’ve qualified top of the group again this year, so we’ll move onto the next game and put the other one away now.
Relishing facing the Red Devils
When it was Sir Alex’s teams it was incredibly difficult to win any games and the games at Old Trafford were amazing with the crowds and atmospheres.
I’m hoping we can give them as good a game as we did last year, and if we can win it would keep us in a really strong league position. We’ll keep trying to do that.
I don’t want to make too much comment about Manchester United, but I hope they give the manager time to get everything in place that he wants to do, and give him every opportunity to be successful.
It’s a great football club, with great players and great traditions. There are so many good things about it, and obviously the supporters there will be looking for something a little bit more.
I’ll obviously expect them to give you a really tough game. I can’t speak about Manchester United, all I can say is they’ve got really good players and I hope we don’t catch them on a good day.
Pushing hard in the Premier League
It says a lot about where we are at the moment and what we’re doing that you’re talking about West Ham as direct rivals to Manchester United.
We’re fighting hard to stick with the top teams if we can. If we win it could get us into the top six or seven at the weekend, we’re just outside at the moment.
We want to keep that going, we want to keep pushing hard in the league and we want to try to get European football for a fourth year in a row if possible. Manchester United at home, we have to try and use our home form to get something out of the game.
Squad update
Cresswell was sick before we went up, but he improved a little bit and we took him up with us.
Nayef Aguerd, I’ve seen today. He’s looking a bit better but I don’t know if he’s completely better. Even after the game last night we had a few players again feeling unwell, so they’ll need to be monitored over the next couple of days.
Michail Antonio is improving [with his knee injury]. He’s on the grass, he’s doing some running. He’s improving and getting closer.
