Julen Lopetegui has made one change to his West Ham United starting XI for Monday’s Premier League match at Newcastle United.
From the side that began the 0-0 draw with Everton before the international break, Carlos Soler is brought into the starting line-up in place of Guido Rodríguez, who reverts to the bench among the nine substitutes.
Otherwise, Head Coach Lopetegui sticks with the team that performed admirably in the second half against the Toffees, as we make the trip to the North-East to contest our sixth away league clash of the campaign.
Mohammed Kudus serves the fourth game of his extended five-match ban after being shown a red card at Tottenham Hotspur last month, while Edson Álvarez serves the second game of a two-match suspension after being sent-off at Nottingham Forest earlier this month. Niclas Füllkrug is absent at St James’ Park as he continues his recovery from injury.
Academy of Football graduate Ollie Scales, who was named in a Premier League matchday squad for the first time since February against Everton, has retained his spot in the 20 and is named on the substitutes’ bench.
So, Łukasz Fabiański starts in goal, with a back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Clair Todibo, Maximilian Kilman and Emerson in front of him.
Ahead of them, Soler, who is making his second Premier League start of the season, will operate in the middle of the park, alongside Tomáš Souček and Lucas Paquetá. Paquetá will hope to get the better of his Brazil national team colleague Bruno Guimarães in midfield.
Elsewhere, captain Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville will likely start on either flank. Young Dutchman Summerville has been a revelation in recent weeks, having scored his first goal in Claret and Blue against Manchester United, and will want to add further goals to his tally.
That means Michail Antonio, who scored in our most recent victory over Newcastle in August 2021, will lead the forward line.
The substitutes’ bench will be filled by Scarles, Dinos Mavropanos, goalkeeper Alphonse Areola, full-backs Vladimír Coufal and Aaron Cresswell, midfielders Rodríguez and Andy Irving, winger Luis Guilherme and striker Danny Ings.
