Souček: Moyes deserved to finish at home with a win

An elated Tomás Souček hammered home his seventh Premier League goal of the campaign to ensure David Moyes got the London Stadium send-off he deserved, as West Ham United defeated Luton Town 3-1 on Saturday.

Following an underwhelming first 45 minutes, where West Ham chances were few and far between, the Hammers came out for the second half with a greater sense of purpose, overturning their one-goal deficit courtesy of strikes from James Ward-Prowse, Souček and George Earthy.

Riding the momentum of the home crowd following Ward-Prowse's effort on 54 minutes, the Czech international delivered a hammer blow to Luton's survival hopes with a terrific left-footed volley from the edge of the penalty area.

One of Moyes' first permanent signings in his second stint at the Club, Souček has been a mainstay in the Irons' midfield throughout their recent impressive campaigns.

Accompanied by his family as he saluted the home fans one last time this season during the team's lap of appreciation, the 29-year-old reflected on his time under the tutelage of the manager.

He said: "The boss has been here for four-and-a-half, nearly five years, and he’s improved this Club to another level. We’ve finished in great positions, we’ve won a cup, even this season we can finish in the top half and have reached a European quarter-final.

"I scored this important goal for our fans, but most importantly for the manager because it’s his last game at home.

"I’m so happy for him. We have to thank him for what he’s done and now we are happy to celebrate with the supporters."

The Hammers' dominant second-half display came after a disappointing away performance at Chelsea last time out.

Commenting on the collective eagerness to put things right, Souček was delighted to give the home fans something to cheer about and finish the season on a high note.

He added: "It’s so important [to bounce back like this]. I’m so happy with the performance and the way we turned it around. There’s still one game to go, but this is the perfect way to finish at home!

"You can see what it means to the supporters and we are so grateful for their backing."
