West Ham United women’s team is delighted to confirm that Soraya Walsh has signed her first professional contract with the Club.
The 18-year-old midfielder put pen-to-paper on a long-term contract and will continue her development in east London.
Walsh joined West Ham United from Charlton Athletic at the beginning of the 2022/23 season after impressing during a successful trial, helping the Hammers' Under-21s finish sixth in the FA Women’s Academy League in her debut campaign in Claret and Blue.
Walsh spent the 2023/24 season with Billericay Town, performing well in her 25 appearances for the Essex club in her maiden season in senior women’s football in the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division.
Walsh shared her delight at securing her long-term future with the Hammers.
“It’s an amazing feeling to sign a professional contract at West Ham,” the midfielder told West Ham TV. “Spending last season at Billericay Town was a big step up for me and really important for my development. Now, I want to keep working as hard as I can and to continue showing the best version of myself.
”It’s a privilege to be a part of this team and to have the opportunity to grow and develop at West Ham is a dream come true!”
Manager Rehanne Skinner shared her happiness for the youngster and looks forward to seeing her continued progress at the Club.
“I’m delighted that Soraya has signed her first professional contract with West Ham," said Skinner. “For any young player, signing their first professional contract is a massive achievement and a very proud moment, not just for them but for their family too.
“Having the opportunity to spend last season in a hybrid training programme with the first team at Chadwell Heath, whilst also playing for Billericay Town, has aided Soraya’s development and I’m sure there is plenty more to come in the years ahead.”
Everyone at West Ham United would like to congratulate Soraya on signing her first professional contract and wish her a successful future in Claret and Blue.
