Snerle named in Denmark squad for 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup

Emma Snerle has been selected by Denmark in their 23-player squad for the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. 

The 22-year-old midfielder has been chosen by head coach Lars Søndergaard for the tournament which is taking place in Australia and New Zealand this summer.

The tournament begins for Snerle and her international teammates on Saturday 22 July when they take on China in Perth. The, they face they current European Champions, England in Sydney, before taking on Haiti to round off Group D. 

This is the first time that Denmark has qualified for a World Cup since 2007, and their previous best finish was at the 1995 World Cup, which saw them reach the quarter final stage. 

Snerle finished the season strongly for West Ham United, scoring goals against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. In total, the midfielder featured 16 times across the 2022/23 campaign, with her early part of the season disrupted by injury.

The midfielder joins a growing list of players for the Club that have been confirmed as heading out to the World Cup, with Risa Shimizu and Honoka Hayashi part of Japan’s 23-player squad, whilst Izzy Atkinson is in Vera Pauw’s squad for the Republic of Ireland. 

Mackenzie Arnold and Viviane Asseyi have been named in provisional squad’s for Australia and France respectively, and will hope to be included in the final 23-player squads when decisions are made in the coming days.
