Rehanne Skinner was once again frustrated as West Ham United women's team couldn't convert a positive performance into points in their latest Barclays Women's Super League outing.
Her side were narrowly beaten 1-0 at Chigwell Construction Stadium in their final home match of the calendar year, despite controlling large parts of the match.
Riko Ueki and Viviane Asseyi both went close on numerous occasions, whilst Jess Ziu also had an effort that looked destined to find the back of the net cleared away by the Toffees.
Against the run of play, Everton scored the only goal of the game, as Karen Holmsgaard headed in from a corner kick.
And time ran out before the Irons could find a way back into the game, much to the disappointment of the West Ham United manager...
It's a really difficult result to take
In terms of the stats and everything associated with the game, we'll come out on top because we dominated the game from start to finish. We've been caught out a little bit by over playing at the back and conceded a corner which then led to a goal at the back post.
The difficulty is that we've created chances, and we've just not kind of taken them with enough conviction, they've been just off target, or they've gotten a little bit too close to the keeper. Our keeper made no saves in the game and that kind of shows the dominance that we've had within the game itself.
It's another one of those games where we've produced a good performance but come away with nothing
The players 100% believe in what we're doing and the way that we're playing because they know that they're playing better football than they have played previously, and they're comfortable with what we're trying to achieve. And actually, when you look at the way that we're moving the ball and the way that we're progressing, in terms of how West Ham want to play as a Club, we're moving the ball really well and the fans are getting behind us with that, and they can see the difference in our attacking play.
We just need to make sure that we convert the chances
Making the most of those chances takes a little bit of pressure off the back line then. Basically, we've conceded a set play, which we knew was probably going to be Everton's biggest threat really, and so it's disappointing to concede that way when actually we've dominated most of the game, been in their half and created the most chances.
The way that we're playing is definitely creating opportunities for us, we want to keep doing that and be more convincing in both boxes
I think some of the some of the shots that we had maybe could have had a little bit more conviction in them, and Courtney Brosnan made a great save that she tipped right onto the post.
We've definitely had our chances and I think that once we get one of those, it'll be a situation where we'll score more and more. Sometimes in football, it's just getting that one over the line, that obviously then sets the wheels in motion a little bit better. The players are confident but it's just not working out at this moment in time.
We're going to keep working incredibly hard for the Club and for the fans. The results aren't good enough right now, we know that but we're playing in a way that we believe is going to help us in the future.
One of the big positives today was Jess Ziu getting back on the pitch for a big chunk of minutes
She's been great in terms of the impact she's had in the last few games when she's come on as a sub and so she earned an opportunity to play after nearly 14 months out with an injury prior to this this season. It's a huge positive to get another squad member back. Emma Snerle is really close as well so that's obviously massive for the squad too.
