Rehanne Skinner was pleased with the character and resilience shown by her side to get back into the game against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.
The Irons had a number of clear-cut chances throughout the match at King Power Stadium but were largely frustrated as those opportunities came and went.
And when Lena Petermann squeezed in a strike on 68 minutes, it looked as though the game might fade away from her team.
However, just as time looked as though it had run out, a deflected cross from Princess Ademiluyi found Honoka Hayashi at the back post, as the bundled the ball home from close range to share the points.
It was exactly what the Hammers deserved, as they forced Janina Leitzig into a number of good saves, and Skinner was pleased that her team found a way to leave Leicestershire with a point.
I was really pleased with the performance today overall.
I think we've dominated the game from start to finish, we've created five clear cut chances, defended resolutely, worked really hard and put bodies on the line.
Overall, we've shown a real character and strength to end up coming from behind, and there’s loads of positives we can take from doing so.
There was real hunger and desire from the team make sure they came away with a point today.
There’s definitely been times where I’ve been stood on the sidelines in games and thought that it doesn’t matter how long we’re playing today that we might not get a goal – but today I didn’t feel like that.
I genuinely felt like the momentum was in our favour and that it was only going to be a matter of time before we got back into the game. So, I was delighted that we got the goal and the point on the road, which is really important to us, but I’m also disappointed not to get all three based on the run of the game to be honest.
It was a really hard working and solid effort that was full of character and resilience from the team. We made some good decisions in terms of game management today – better than we have in other games this season.
We’re learning with every game, and the team has moved tremendously since the start of the season to now, so that’s something to look forward to for the second half of the season.
Everybody that came onto the pitch today did well.
We managed to get Emma Snerle into the game today for the first time since pre-season, so that’s a positive that she’s been able to come on and is okay. We’ve got Jess Ziu and Princess Ademiluyi who have got minutes too.
We want to keep evolving the squad, adding in more experience so that we add more experience to that, so that we can get more of these performances over the line more often.
Our performances this season for the most part have been good. They haven’t been 90-minute performances, but they’ve been improving as we’ve moved through this season. The way that we’re going is positive, we know that we’ve got the foundations in place and that we need to pick up more points.
We’re not happy with how many we’ve picked up in the first half of the season, but the way that we’re progressing is important, and it will definitely put us in good stead for the second half of the season.
We’re ready to get back to it in the New Year.
We know where we are and we know what we need to do to fix that. Everybody’s effort levels were superb today to try and move in that direction. We had a chat about things after Everton, where we spoke about what things had to look like moving forward, and all week and into the game we delivered that today.
A point on the road is important, and it’ll help us moving into the second half of the season.
