Skinner nominated for WSL Manager of the Month award

West Ham United women's team boss Rehanne Skinner has been nominated for March's Barclays Women's Super League Manager of the Month award.

Our manager presided over four impressive league displays last month, that started with a narrow 4-3 defeat at the hands of 15-time English champions Arsenal. An Amber Tysiak brace had made it 2-0 to the Irons at Meadow Park, before Shekiera Martinez later made it 3-1, but the Gunners fought back with three goals in six minutes to ultimately edge the spoils.

Rather than crumble after such disappointment, Skinner rallied her troops and inspired an eye-catching 1-1 draw at home to Manchester City three days later, with Manuela Paví equalising for West Ham in second-half stoppage time after Bunny Shaw's 80th-minute opener. The point earned marked the women's team's record 14th at home in 2024/25, surpassing their previous best of 13 in the 2021/22 campaign.

The Hammers had to wait two-and-a-half weeks for their next WSL outing, but they carried their strong momentum into their clash against London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Chigwell Construction Stadium. A Josefine Rybrink own-goal as well as a late Viviane Asseyi free-kick earned a comfortable 2-0 triumph, and saw the team set another record for home wins in a WSL season (five).

Last up for Skinner and her team in March was a tough-looking trip to league leaders Chelsea, who went into the contest unbeaten in the WSL, and having only dropped points twice, against Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

West Ham again stood up to the challenge, recovering from being 2-0 down by the 21st-minute mark to rescue a 2-2 draw, courtesy of Martinez strikes close to half-time, and right at the death. The clash at Kingsmeadow was Skinner's 50th in charge, since her appointment in July 2023, and a share of the spoils against the defending champions, on their own patch, was certainly a great way to celebrate.

One win and two draws from those four March games has lifted West Ham up to seventh in the table with just four matches left to play, and within three points of fifth place, which would mark the team's highest finish since their elevation to the top flight back in 2018.

Skinner has been shortlisted for the Manager of the Month prize alongside Manchester United's Marc Skinner and Arsenal's Renée Slegers. West Ham supporters can vote for Skinner HERE.

Polling closes at 11am BST on Monday 7 April, with the winner being announced on Thursday 10 April.
