Six players in action as women's team's June internationals conclude

There was another busy bout of international action for West Ham United's women's team on Tuesday evening, with six players in action...

Jess Ziu was named Player of the Match as Republic of Ireland fell to a late 1-0 defeat to Sweden in UEFA Euro 2025 qualifying.

A late goal from a set-piece from defender Magdalena Eriksson gave the Swedes the victory at Friends Arena in Stockholm.

Ziu performed well throughout the clash, before being replaced in the 79th minute by Lucy Quinn. Jessie Stapleton also featured in the defeat, coming off the bench to replace former Hammer Ruesha Littlejohn with just under an hour gone.

Although the Girls in Green sit bottom of League A Group 3, they will progress to the play-offs regardless of their finishing position due to their status as a League A side.

Shelina Zadorsky was also named Player of the Match for Canada in their 1-1 draw with Mexico in a friendly match, in her 100th appearance for her country.

The defender played the full 90 minutes at BMO Field in Toronto, and laid on a fantastic cross for Kadeisha Buchanan to head home the opener.

Lizbeth Ovalle managed to grab an equaliser for Mexico with 20 minutes remaining, as the sides played out an entertaining draw.

Amber Tysiak was in action for Belgium in their UEFA Euro 2025 qualifying clash with Czech Republic, which saw the Red Flames draw 1-1 on home soil.

In a competitive clash at Stayen, Sint-Truiden, the visitors took the lead after 19 minutes through Kamila Dubcová, but Jassina Blom was able to pull a goal back to draw level on 78 minutes.

Like Republic of Ireland, Belgium will progress from League A Group 2 to the play-offs regardless of their finishing position due to their status as a League A side. However, they will hope to pick up points in their two remaining fixtures against Denmark and Czech Republic later this summer and qualify automatically.

In the same group, Emma Snerle featured for Denmark as they pushed current world champions Spain all the way in a 3-2 defeat in Santa Cruz, Tenerife. Janni Thomsen scored twice to give the Danes a 2-0 advantage, but a late surge from Spain saw Irene Paredes score twice and Lucía García strike in added time to inflict defeat.

Scotland

Scotland cruised to a 5-0 victory over Israel to maintain their advantage at the top of League B Group 2.

Former West Ham forward Martha Thomas scored four times, while Chelsea Cornet notched her first international goal in a comprehensive victory in Budapest.

Kirsty Smith was introduced off the bench for the final 20 minutes of the match.
