PLAY-OFF ROUND

West Ham United 3-1 Viborg FF
Viborg FF 0-3 West Ham United
(West Ham United won 6-1 on aggregate)

West Ham United eased past Danish Superliga opponents Viborg FF courtesy of two professional performances in late August 2022.

Gianluca Scamacca got things started at London Stadium, before Jarrod Bowen made it 2-0 midway through the second half. Jacob Bonde halved the Danes’ deficit five minutes later before Michail Antonio’s late goal meant the Irons would travel to central Jutland with a two-goal advantage.

That became three 22 minutes into the second leg at a sold-out, vibrant and colourful Viborg Stadion through Scamacca’s smart near-post finish.

Second-half strikes from Saïd Benrahma and Tomáš Souček finally ended the resistance of spirited opponents who would go on to finish third in the Superliga this season, and sent the Hammers through to the group stage.
