England celebrate Georgia Stanway's winning goal against Spain

Rice backs Lionesses for semi-final success

Twelve months on from the England men’s team reaching the Euro 2020 final, the England women’s team stand on the cusp of repeating the feat.

One Hammer who experienced the Three Lions’ run to the showpiece game at Wembley was Declan Rice, and he has thrown his support behind the Lionesses as they bid to reach the final themselves.

England, having come from behind to see off the challenge of Spain in a tightly-contested quarter-final, now face the challenge of Sweden, who defeated Belgium in their last-eight tie.

The pair go head-to-head at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane home on Tuesday evening, with a date under the Wembley arch on Sunday the reward.

And Rice, who has got to know Sarina Wiegman’s squad well on international camps at St George’s Park, is backing them to succeed.

“It’s special and I’m buzzing for them,” he said. “Whilst we were away with England in June we got to spend a lot of time with them because they we were at St George’s as well.

“On one of the nights me and Kieran Trippier did a talk to them on our experiences at the Euros, and what a top group of people they have.

“The banter was flying, great conversation, and just watching them play has been really special.

“They’re top, top players and are just one game away from the final which if they get to I’m definitely going to go and watch.”
