Ahead of West Ham United women's team's Barclays Women's Super League fixture against Aston Villa, Rehanne Skinner penned her Official Programme notes! You can read them below!
Good afternoon and welcome to Chigwell Construction Stadium for this afternoon’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Aston Villa.
I’d like to welcome Carla Ward, her staff and players to east London for today’s game.
We’re looking forward to being back playing in front of our own fans today. As we’re going through this transition period, we will naturally face some highs and lows. We’ve been really pleased with some elements of our performance across all of our games this season, but our aim is to try and be consistent in every game playing the West Ham Way. That’s a process that will take some time.
This league is really competitive, it’s a big challenge and we’re building for the future. We’re supporting and developing the players to understand and become resilient in this league, and increasing their experience have not played in the league for very long. We’re massively grateful for your support during this transition and getting behind us.
The players want to progress, want to work hard and have the right work ethic to take on board what we’re trying to do.
Aston Villa will be an another different test for us today. They had a great season last year and picked up their first win last weekend. As ever, we’ve prepared diligently on the opposition to look for ways to utilise our strengths to look for any gaps in their structure. today will be about us sticking to and executing the game plan.
We’re entering a period of three matches in seven days before we head into the international break. The whole squad will be really crucial. We talk about the importance of that all the time, of training intensity, their role within our style of play and executing that when it matters on gameday, no matter what role you play.
Thank you for your continued support across our matches so far this season. I’m sure you are able to see the progress that we are making as a team in the way that we want to play and in every game that we play. We're trying to be the best version of ourselves and our aim is to continue with that progression today and come away with some points!
COME ON YOU IRONS!
