Wycombe Wanderers v West Ham United U21s
Bristol Street Motors Trophy, Adams Park, Tuesday 9 January 2024, 7pm GMT
West Ham United U21s continue their Bristol Street Motors Trophy campaign away to Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday 9 January 2024.
The Irons would reach the last eight of the competition for the first time with victory at Adams Park.
Steve Potts’ outfit are currently unbeaten in their last 16 matches in all competitions.
How did the Hammers reach the last 16?
The U21s reached the last 16 of the Bristol Street Motors Trophy for the first time in the Club’s history thanks to a stunning 4-0 win over Colchester United in the round of 32 in early December.
The Hammers have also beaten Cheltenham Town, Bristol Rovers, and Newport County in the competition.
Clayton: We're excited for Wycombe challenge
Regan Clayton knows the U21s will have to be at their best to beat Wycombe Wanderers.
Like the young Hammers, the EFL League One side have won all four of their fixtures in the Bristol Street Motors and will pose a stern test at Adams Park.
“We’ve had a few friendlies to start the year,” Clayton explained, “and there’s a lot we can take from those into Tuesday’s game.
“I think they’ll know we’re a good football team so I think they’ll sit in, and it will be tough to break them down.”
The U21s have impressed in the competition so far this season and have enjoyed the battle with a hatful of EFL outfits.
Clayton is relishing the challenge of going toe-to-toe with senior professionals once more.
He added: “We’ve got to be as positive as possible, even the centre-backs. We’ve got to do the simple stuff as well because it is not always going to be on but when it’s on we’ve got to step in and play forward because there the chances you’ve got to take.
“We always train the same regardless of the opposition. It’s just trying to carry on how we’ve started this season and finish the campaign strong.”
Last Time Out
A stunning comeback from the U21s saw a 5-1 win over Crystal Palace in their final fixture of 2023.
Kaelan Casey, Callum Marshall, George Earthy, Conor Coventry, and Gideon Kodua were all on the scoresheet as the U21s moved 16 games unbeaten.
Steve Potts' outfit have now won seven of their first ten PL2 games in 2023/24.
