Opposition…
Chelsea sit in 12th place in the Premier League 2 table, with five wins and four defeats from their first eleven games.
The Blues have hit a good run of form recently, however, and have stretched an unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions.
Part of that run includes a 3-2 win over Manchester United, with Reading, Manchester City, West Bromwich Albion, and Blackburn Rovers the other four sides Chelsea have beaten in Premier League 2 this season.
Coach’s View…
Steve Potts knows that a London derby against Chelsea will be a good marker for the Hammers’ development side.
A six-game winning run will of course be tested against the Blues, who boast one of the strongest Academy set-ups in the country.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s fixture, the lead coach said: “Chelsea is always a tough game because they always have good players across their squad.
“It’s a good challenge to see how we will cope with that one. It is no different to the first-team level because there’s an added bit because it’s a top London club and hopefully we can do ourselves justice.”
The Story So Far…
The U21s are currently four points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur, having recorded six wins on the bounce in the league.
The Hammers have not fallen to a league defeat since the opening day, having won nine and drawn two of their last 11 league matches including a 3-1 win over Stoke City last time out in Premier League 2.
Sean Moore could score for the third straight game in all competitions on Friday evening.
