European football returned to the London Stadium on Thursday evening for the first time since October 2022 with West Ham United taking on AEK Larnaca for a place in the quarter finals of UEFA Europa Conference League.
David Moyes' side had a 100% record in the competition going into tonight's fixture in east London and head into the second leg with a two-goal advantage thanks to a Michail Antonio double in Cyprus.
Gianluca Scamacca was one of six changes from the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday - with Ben Johnson, Angelo Ogbonna, Aaron Cresswell, Manuel Lanzini and Pablo Fornals also coming in.
And the Italian forward opened the scoring 20 minutes into the tie when his low shot squirmed under Kenan Pirić. Just before the first half ended Gus Ledes was sent off for the visitors for a poor challenge on Pablo Fornals, with VAR overturning the original yellow card decision from referee Georgi Kabakov.
Early in the second half, two quickfire goals from Jarrod Bowen put Moyes' men comfortable in control. Another goal followed as Divin Mubama netting his first professional goal for the Club, flicking the ball beyond Pirić to make it four on the night and book their place in the quarter finals of the competition.
