Paquetá v Paraguay at 2024 Copa America

Paquetá named in Brazil squad for October World Cup qualifiers

Lucas Paquetá has been named in Brazil’s squad for two important 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Chile and Peru in October.

The West Ham United midfielder has won 52 caps and scored eleven goals for his national team, and he will hope to find the net again as Brazil seek to get their qualifying campaign back on track.

The five-time World Cup winners have won just three of their opening eight South American qualifying ties, putting them in the fifth and final automatic qualification spot for the finals in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

However, Brazil will have high hopes of picking up two victories when they take on the two sides who sit ninth and tenth respectively in the ten-nation table.

Paquetá and his compatriots travel to the Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Santiago to take on Chile on Thursday 10 October, with the tie kicking-off at 8pm local time (1am BST on Friday 11 October).

From there, they return home to the Arena BRB Mané Garrincha, located in the Federal District of Brazil, to host Peru on Tuesday 15 October at 8.45pm (1.45am BST on Wednesday 16 October). This game will be broadcast live in the UK by Premier Sports 1.

Paquetá is one of eight Premier League-based players called up by manager Dorival Junior, with Manchester City’s Ederson and Savinho, Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhães and Gabriel Martinelli, Liverpool's Alisson, Newcastle United's Bruno Guimaraes and Wolverhampton Wanderers' André.
