West Ham United’s Lewis Orford and Finlay Herrick both played their part as England lifted the U18 Pinatar Super Cup with an unbeaten run across their three-game March camp.
Making his sixth appearance at this level for his country and second start of the MU18s March fixtures, Orford started England’s final fixture, playing 90 minutes in the heart of midfield, on Monday lunchtime.
Needing a draw to win the mini-tournament, goals from Leo Black and Leon Chiwome saw a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands secure a well-deserved trophy lift for Tom Curtis’ men.
Orford, who featured as part of the West Ham squad for our UEFA Europa League last 16 against SC Freiburg earlier this month, was also involved in a 2-1 win over Czechia on Wednesday and Friday’s 0-0 draw with Germany – the latter of which saw Herrick make his one start of the international break and star in a dramatic penalty shootout win.
Part of the England squad for the FIFA U17 World Cup last November, Herrick was the man between the sticks in a 5-3 win on penalties and made a superb save to secure a vital extra point following a goalless 90.
Both Herrick and Orford will now return to West Ham to prepare for domestic action and potential involvement in the U21s Premier League International Cup semi-final against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday 9 April.
