My Football Firsts | Danny Ings

First game you watched live as a supporter?

It was Nottingham Forest against Aston Villa. My uncle is a Forest fan and took me along, and my dad actually had a spell of supporting Villa just to be against him. I’m not sure what year it was - all I can really remember from it was that it was a night game and the experience of walking up to the stadium and seeing it under the lights was amazing. I was really young.

First football hero?

I will say Matt Le Tissier. He was local to Southampton, which was near where I grew up, and he was obviously a very classy player. As I got a bit older, I loved players such as the Brazilian Ronaldo and Ronaldinho.

First football boots?

The first football boots I owned were Nike Mercurial Vapors, and I still wear the same type of boots today. They’re class.

First kit?

It was a Southampton kit. I’m not sure what year it was, but I was quite young at the time. I know it had red and white stripes!

First mentor in football?

I would say my dad was my first mentor in football. He was my manager for our Sunday League team, and still to this day he’s the person I can talk to about anything inside or outside the game.

First professional game?

I made my professional debut at AFC Bournemouth when I came on as a substitute for Jason Tindall against Northampton Town in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy (now the Vertu Trophy) in October 2009. We lost the game, but it was still obviously a hugely significant occasion for me.

First professional goal?

I scored my first ever goal on my debut for Dorchester Town against Ebbsfleet United in the National League South in September 2010, having joined them on loan from Bournemouth when I was 18. My first professional goal came for Bournemouth in a 3-2 win over Swindon Town in February 2011, in League One.

First red card?

I’ve never had a red card in my career - and let’s hope it stays that way!
